Hello WACD and ABRF enthusiasts!
We look forward to seeing you at our 5th annual Western Association of Core Directors meeting on September 17 and 18th at OHSU! The 2015 WACD Org Committee is working hard to develop an engaging program for you this year. Here is a sneak peek into details on the meeting:
Announcing our Keynote Speaker - Adam Margolin, Ph.D., Director of Computational Biology in the OHSU School of Medicine. Dr. Margolin has achieved international recognition for his work in computational approaches for inferring cellular regulatory networks and for developing predictive models linking alterations in cellular networks to clinical cancer phenotypes. At OHSU he is leading a new multidisciplinary program that increases data, informatics tools and computational methods to support the discovery of next-generation treatments and therapies. As a systems biologist, his work spans many disciplines and requires collaboration across departments, institutions, as well as with industry partners for success. We believe he brings good energy and offers a broad and different perspective on how innovations in technology can be brought to academic science and core/support facilities.
Business and Operations Sessions - You asked for it, and we listened! In addition to two scientific sessions, we are currently planning a business and operations session, as well as a core management session, applicable to all core disciplines. These sessions were well received and much appreciated last year, so we hope to continue that trend. We look forward to offering more tools for optimizing our operations.
Networking events - Thursday evening we are hosting a social that includes food, drink and entertainment at a special venue near the bottom of the OHSU aerial tram. If we are lucky with the weather, we will be outside near our new Collaborative Life Science Building or on a rooftop garden at the nearby Center for Health and Healing. Either way, it will be a great event! Also, we are moving to a new lunchtime format, so that those times on both days can be used for networking with your colleagues!
Sponsors - Our sponsors have been quick to respond this year, with most of the spots already taken! We want to shout out to our 2015 Platinum sponsor, HTG Molecular. All of the support from our vendor partners allows us to create a great program and add value to our constituents. One of the benefits we are happy to offer for the 2nd year is the WACD travel award grant. Hopefully this will encourage folks that wouldn’t otherwise be able to attend.
We will send more information in the coming month on registration and hotel information, so keep an eye out for that soon. We look forward to a fantastic two days together in Portland!
Thank you to our 2015 WACD Sponsors!
